The healthy weight for men depends on a lot of factors. It just does not merely involve the weight in relation to the height. Before you find out what is a man’s healthy weight, first you have to know what healthy weight means.

A healthy weight is a weight that lowers your risk for health problems. For most people, body mass index (BMI) and waist size are good ways to tell if they are at a healthy weight. The recommended BMI of a person should be from 18.5 to 24.9. Below the minimum or above the maximum is considered unhealthy.

It is important to remember that your BMI is only one measure of your health. After you get your BMI, it is time to look at your waist size. Men with more fat around the belly area are more likely to develop weight-related diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Measure your waist size with a tape measure just a little above your belly-button. This is your natural waist line. Most men think that men’s waistline is below their belly button or above the hip bone. No, it is not! The tape should fit snugly around the natural waist line but should not be pressing into the skin. The goal for a healthy waist size is 37in to 40in for men.

These are just benchmarks to aim for if a man wishes to stay within his healthy weight. Other factors such as muscle and bone mass, body frame, percentage of fat, ethnicity, and age all have to be considered.

But reaching a healthy weight is not just about reaching a certain number on the scale or a certain BMI. These are just estimates and are meant to give people an idea of what to aim for. If you are 10% above or below your “ideal” weight, you are still within a healthy weight range.

Most men hate to diet because most men love to eat. Having healthy eating habits and exercise habits from the onset will help maintain a healthy weight for men.
