Weight According To Height: it is relative
Many people still determine their weight according to height. But that is only half of the whole picture. People may use different methods to achieve what, for them, is their ideal weight. It is advised that you take your vitals before you start any weight-related regimen so you have a base point. It is also necessary that your ideal vitals should be determined to serve as the benchmark for your goal.
Measuring the ideal weight and height is not an exact science. It is true that weight is in direct proportion to health, but health can have a number of additional determining factors. Some factors that need to be determined are your medical history or that of your family’s, genetics, smoking, alcohol consumption, dietary habits, over all lifestyle, and level of stress. Age, gender, body frame, and ideal percentage of fat are some factors that also need to be considered.
Several ideal weight calculators can be found online for convenience, but most of them are using obsolete formulas or tables that were created in the ‘70s. The values were too large for short people and commonly wrong for tall people. It is best to set your goal with a medically-recommended ideal weight calculator like the Body Mass Index.
The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a common method of measuring your body mass index as part of your search for your ideal weight. In this calculation, you are measuring the proportionate height against the weight in kilos or pounds. The calculation is simple and does give you a good idea of your ideal body weight according to your height. The most common formula for BMI calculation is:
(Weight in pounds/height in inches X height in inches) X 730 (fudge factor) = BMI (English formula)
OR
Weight in kilograms/height in centimeters X height in centimeters = BMI (Metric formula)
BMI of 18.5 to 24.99 is normal; below 18.5 is underweight; 25 to 20.99 are overweight; above 30 is obese. BMI does not serve as an absolute indicator but will be a good benchmark for your deal weight according to height.
